ISCCP PROJECT STATUS REPORT

CENTER ACTIVITIES

Sector Processing Center (SPC):

During June, NOA, JMA, and ESA processed greater than 99% of A data into B1/B2 data.

Normal operations were reported by NOA, JMA and ESA. No report was received from AES.

CSU reported on their efforts to establish a DOMSAT link to collect B1/B2 data from METEOSAT-3 at 50W. The new antenna has been installed and the electronics are being tested, although the demodulator was found to be defective and had to be re-ordered. Their current estimate for beginning full operations is mid-August. Using the backup NOAA system, CSU has collected 60% of B2 for May, 63% for June and 77% for July. After some quality checks, these data will be shipped to the GPC this month.

Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):

No reports were received.

Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):

The SCC received AC data for May 92 for NOAA-11. They sent BC data to the GPC for GOES-7 for January - February 92; however, only the February results appear reliable. No AC data was collected for November - December 91 and too little data was collected in January to allow normalization. Severe weather in the central US this spring and summer required NOAA to request an unusual amount of "rapid scan" imagery from GOES-7 which has interfered with collection of AC data for several months.

Global Processing Center (GPC):

The GPC continued to receive B2 data, BC data and correlative data in a routine manner.

Production of NOAA-11 (preliminary) B3 data is current.

Production of NOAA-12 (preliminary) B3 data is current.

Production of METEOSAT-4 (preliminary) B3 data is current.

Production of GOES-7 (preliminary) B3 data is current. Replacement datasets for July and August 91 were received from AES; however, these data are in a different format requiring new software (the SCC also had to change its software to accommodate a new format for AC data). Inspection of these data is underway.

Production of GMS-4 (preliminary) B3 data is current.

The final INSAT B2 data for January - March 89 were received from CSU with proper normalizations. Production of all INSAT-1 (preliminary) B3 data has been completed, covering the period from January 86 through March 89. Work is underway to determine final calibrations.

Production of TOVS and the ice/snow correlative datasets is current. The sea ice dataset for 91 has not been received.

Production of C1/C2 data has stopped because the NAVY/NOAA Sea Ice dataset for 91 is not available.

ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):

The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in a routine manner.

SATELLITE HEALTH

The health of GMS-4, METEOSAT-3 (at 50 W), METEOSAT-4, METEOSAT-5, GOES-7, NOAA-11, and NOAA-12 remained good.

DATA DELIVERED

Stage B3: July 83 - June 91

OPEN ITEMS

Correcting GOES-7 B2 data for July 91 and August 91 and delivering the backlog of B1/B2 data for December 91, January, February, March, April, May and June 92 to the GPC.

Delivering sea ice correlative data for 91 to the GPC.

Delivery backlog for B3 data = 6 months (with respect to planned schedule). B3 data for 96 months have been archived.

Delivery backlog for C1/C2 data = 12 months (with respect to planned schedule). C1 data for 90 months have been archived.
