CENTER ACTIVITIES

Sector Processing Center (SPC):

During July, NOA, JMA, AES and ESA processed greater than 96% of A data into B1/B2 data.Normal operations were reported by NOA, JMA and ESA.AES reported loss of data from 2100 on 18 July through 0300 on 20 July caused by the effects of a severe electrical storm on their computer system. Actions are being taken to increase system protection. Software revisions and testing have now been completed for recovery from unanticipated personnel changes and the unplanned, but emergency, change in computer system that occurred last summer. The backlog of B1/B2 data is being processed. New B2 have been delivered to the GPC for July - November 91 and July 92 data were processed on schedule. Software and hardware problems caused some B1/B2 data loss in the summer and autumn of 91 and the loss of the AC data in November - December 91. However, collection rates have been over 96% since September 91, with 100% collection attained in April - June of this year.

Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):

No reports were received.

Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):

The SCC received AC data for June-July 92 for GMS-4, MET-3, MET-4, GOES-7 and NOAA-11. BC data were sent to the GPC for April 92 for GMS-4, MET-3, MET-4 and GOES-7; March 92 BC data were also sent for GOES-7.

Global Processing Center (GPC):

The GPC continued to receive B2 data, BC data and correlative data in a routine manner.Production of NOAA-11 (preliminary) B3 data is current.Production of NOAA-12 (preliminary) B3 data is current.Production of METEOSAT-4 (preliminary) B3 data is current.Production of GOES-7 (preliminary) B3 data is current. Replacement datasets for July - November 91 were received from AES in original format and are now being processed into B3 format. B2 data for July 92 were also received and are being processed.Production of GMS-4 (preliminary) B3 data is current.Production of all INSAT-1 (preliminary) B3 data has been completed. Work is underway to determine final calibrations. The GPC is producing a calibration dataset that contains all the radiance calibration tables from the B3 data. Once the original version of these tables is produced and archived, revisions of the ISCCP calibrations can be "published" by issuing a new version of these calibration data. The calibration datasets have been completed for GOES-5, NOAA-7, NOAA-8, NOAA-9, NOAA-10 and NOAA-11. Remaining datasets are for GOES-6 and GOES-7, METEOSAT-2, 3, 4 and GMS-1, 2, 3, 4.Production of TOVS and the ice/snow correlative datasets is current. The sea ice dataset for 91 has not been received. A number of small errors, affecting a few percent of the ISCCP version of TOVS have been analyzed and the processing software revised. Re-processing of the whole TOVS dataset will begin later this month.Production of C1/C2 data has stopped because the NAVY/NOAA Sea Ice dataset for 91 is not available.

ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):

The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in a routine manner.

SATELLITE HEALTH

The health of GMS-4, METEOSAT-3 (at 50 W), METEOSAT-4, METEOSAT-5, GOES-7, NOAA-11, and NOAA-12 remained good.
