CENTER ACTIVITIES

Sector Processing Center (SPC):

During May, NOA, ESA, AES, JMA, and CSU processed greater than 96% of A data into B1/B2 data.

Normal operations for May were reported by NOA, ESA, AES, JMA and CSU. No B2 data or report for April 94 have been received from AES.

Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):

No report received.

Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):

The SCC received AC data for April 94 from NOAA-11, for April and May 94 from GOES-7, and for May 94 from GMS-4, METEOSAT-3 and METEOSAT-5. BC data were sent to the GPC for GMS-4 and METEOSAT-3 for January 94. All satellite normalizations are completed through January 94.

Global Processing Center (GPC):

The GPC continued to receive B2 data, BC data and correlative data in a routine manner.

Production of NOAA-11 (preliminary) B3 data is current. New BT (calibration) data have been produced for the "afternoon" polar orbiters: NOAA-7 (calibration has been completed back to September 1981), NOAA-9 and NOAA-11.

Production of NOAA-12 (preliminary) B3 data is current.

Production of GOES-7 (preliminary) B3 data is current. The processing of the UWS replacement B2 data continues.

Production of METEOSAT-3 (preliminary) B3 data is current. The processing of B3 data for May 92 through October 92 continues.

Production of METEOSAT-4 (preliminary) B3 data is complete. METEOSAT-5 production has not yet begun.

Production of GMS-4 (preliminary) B3 data is current.

Production of all INSAT-1 (preliminary) B3 data has been completed.

Production of the ice/snow and TOVS correlative datasets is current. Sea ice data for 92 have now been obtained, but the availability of the 93 dataset is in doubt.

All of the new processing software is now complete, including that for the D2 processing. Because we are transferring the D2 data to NASA archives over Internet, the processing of D2 is being done on a workstation rather than a mainframe computer. A full test of the whole system is underway. We are still investigating questions about the ice cloud radiative model; we have completed another version and are comparing it with that supplied by P. Minnis. Once these questions are resolved, re-processing will commence.

ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):

The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, CSU and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in a routine manner.

SATELLITE HEALTH

The health of GMS-4, METEOSAT-3 (at 75 W), METEOSAT-5, GOES-7, NOAA-11 and NOAA-12 remained good. Check out of the new GOES-8 continues with very few problems being encountered. The launch date for NOAA-J (to replace NOAA-11) has been changed to 29 November 94.
