CENTER ACTIVITIES

Sector Processing Center (SPC):

During April, NOA, ESA, JMA and AES collectively processed more than 96% of A data into B1/B2 data.

Normal operations were reported by NOA and JMA.

ESA reported the loss of several afternoon images that particularly affected AC data collection, caused by commissioning activities for METEOSAT-4.

AES reported loss of data on 15 April due to an operator oversight on the weekend.

NOA reported that no AC target request was received for April, so no Ac data were processed.

Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):

No reports were received.

Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):

No report was received.

Global Processing Center (GPC):

The GPC continued to receive B2 data and correlative data in a routine manner.

Re-processing of all NOAA-9 B3 data to correct the small IR count error has been completed through August 86; these data are being delivered to the ICA as they are produced.

Production of GMS-3 B3 data has been completed through February 87; however, changes in data format were encountered that halted processing. Changes in our software overcame some of these problems, but others are still under investigation.

Inspection of all B3 data to detect short-term calibration anomalies has been completed for NOAA-9 through 87, METEOSAT-2 through 86, GOES-6 through 86 and GMS-3 through 85. Re-calibration of B3 data tapes has commenced.

Re-processing of the C1 data to correct several small errors has been completed for October - December 83 and for February 84. These data are being prepared for delivery to the ICA. Only the C1 data for March - April 84 and for April 85 remain to be re-processed. Some errors and problems with the "FIRE Standard Format" that we developed for delivery of the special CX data have been corrected and re-processing of all FIRE data commenced. The GOES-6 data for October - November 86 have been completed; the NOAA-9 data for these two months is partially completed.

ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):

The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in a routine manner.

OTHER ITEMS

A manuscript, written by Chris Brest and William Rossow, that documents the AVHRR calibration monitoring procedures used by the GPC has been submitted for publication in the International Journal of Remote Sensing. Copies have been sent to the Working Group members.

SATELLITE HEALTH

The health of GMS-3, METEOSAT-3, METEOSAT-4, GOES-7, NOAA-10 and NOAA-11 remained good.
