ISCCP PROJECT STATUS REPORT

CENTER ACTIVITIES

Sector Processing Center (SPC):

During October, NOAA, AES, JMA and ESA processed greater than 85% of A data into B1/B2 data.

Normal operations were reported by NOAA, JMA and ESA.

Reports were also received from AES and NOAA covering September data processing; AES captured more than 61% of the B2 data, while NOAA captured more than 98%.

AES data collection continues to suffer because of the less reliable system that they must use until their bit synchronizer is repaired.

ESA reported a gain change on METEOSAT-4 implemented on 25 October 1989 at 0830 UTC. The first month (Dec 88) of replacement METEOSAT B2 data was shipped to the GPC.

CSU reported that INSAT B2 data holdings at NCAR now cover the period from April through December 1988.

Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):

No reports were received.

Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):

No report or new BC data were received.

Global Processing Center (GPC):

The GPC continued to receive B2 data and correlative data in a routine manner.

Production of NOAA-11 preliminary B3 data has been completed through Sep 89 and will be kept current as new B2 data are received. A more detailed look at the relative calibration of early NOAA-11 data shows some difficulty with the visible channel for the first few days and also a slow trend in the IR channel; both of these small anomalies appear to be correctable. The remaining NOAA-9 B3 data for March through the first week of November 1988 have been delivered to the ICA. Production of NOAA-10 B3 has just started.

The B3 data for GOES-6 have been produced through Oct 88, except for Aug 88 for which replacement B2 data are needed; delivery to the ICA awaits receipt of the BC data.

C1 data for February 85 have been completed. Production of C1 data for March 85 and May 85 will be completed next week.

ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):

The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in a routine manner.

SATELLITE HEALTH

The health of GMS-3, GMS-4, METEOSAT-3, METEOSAT-4, GOES-7, NOAA-10 and NOAA-11 remained good. Launch of NOAA-D has been delayed until May 90.
