NUMBER 86
DATE: 10/05/90
Sector Processing Center (SPC):
During August, NOA, AES, JMA and ESA processed greater than 97% of A data into B1/B2 data.
Normal operations were reported by NOA, AES, JMA and ESA.
CSU reported delivery of six more months of INSAT B2 data to the GPC, covering the period from Apr 86
through Sep 86. They estimate delivery of the remaining 86 and 87 B2 data by the end of this year, with a
production pace of about four months of data per month. CSU also reported that, as far as can be
determined, no more INSAT data will be delivered to NCAR and CSU beyond Apr 89. This means that only
13 months of eight-times-daily data are available for INSAT (Apr 88 - Apr 89), which limits its value.
Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):
No reports were received.
Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):
BC data for GMS-3 for Oct/Nov 89 and for GMS-4 for Dec 89/Jan 90 were received. BC data production is
now essentially on schedule with all data sent to the GPC through Jan 90.
Global Processing Center (GPC):
The GPC continued to receive B2 data and correlative data in a routine manner.
Production of NOAA-11 (preliminary) B3 data is current.
Production of NOAA-10 (preliminary) B3 data is current.
Production of METEOSAT (preliminary) B3 data is current.
Production of GOES-6 (preliminary) B3 data is completed. Re-calibration of GOES-6 B3 data has been
completed through December 87 and the B3 data have been shipped to the ICA.
Production of GOES-7 (preliminary) B3 data has been completed through Jun 90. Data for Sep 88, Nov 88
and Jun 89 need to be replaced, however.
Re-calibration of GMS B3 data has been completed through Jun 87. Production of GMS-4 (preliminary) B3
data began last week.
Production of TOVS correlative data is current, but we still have not received complete snow or sea ice data
for 89.
C1 data for December 86 and January 87 will be completed next week.
C2 data for 85 have been completed and have been shipped to the ICA.
ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):
The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in
a routine manner.
The health of GMS-4, METEOSAT-3, METEOSAT-4, GOES-7, NOAA-10 and NOAA-11 remained good. The
planned launch date for NOAA-D is now May 91.
Delivering backlog of NOAA-10 B2 data for October 89 through August 90 to the GPC.
Delivering all B3 data for 1987, 1988 and 1989 to the ICA.
Delivering snow and sea ice data for 1989 to the GPC.
Completing C1 and C2 data for 1986.
