ISCCP PROJECT STATUS REPORT

NUMBER 88

CENTER ACTIVITIES

Sector Processing Center (SPC):

During October, NOA, JMA, and ESA processed greater than 98% of A data into B1/B2 data. JMA reported processing 100% of A data into B1/B2 data for September 90.

Normal operations were reported by NOA and JMA. No report was received from AES.

ESA reported a recurrence of problems with METEOSAT-4 in all channels. Increasing anomalies in the images, combined with the need to decontaminate the IR and WV channels, required transfer of operations to METEOSAT-3 beginning with 1300 UTC on 30 October and continuing until 0930 UTC on 5 November.

NOA sent all of the remaining backlog of NOAA-10 B2 data to the GPC.

Special Area Processing Center (SAPC):

No reports were received.

Satellite Calibration Center (SCC):

BC data for GOES-7 for July 90 were received. BC data are now complete through July 90.

Global Processing Center (GPC):

The GPC continued to receive B2 data and correlative data in a routine manner.

Production of NOAA-11 (preliminary) B3 data is current. We are still trying to understand the IR calibration of NOAA-11.

Production of NOAA-10 (preliminary) B3 data is complete through December 89. Re-calibration of NOAA-10 B3 data has been completed through October 88 and the B3 data have been shipped to the ICA.

Production of METEOSAT (preliminary) B3 data is current. Re-calibration of METEOSAT B3 data has been completed through October 88 and the B3 data shipped to the ICA.

Production of GOES-6 (preliminary) B3 data is completed. Re-calibration of GOES-6 B3 data has been completed through October 88 and the B3 data have been shipped to the ICA.

Production of GOES-7 (preliminary) B3 data is current. An automated procedure has been developed to detect and remove small offsets between the VIS and IR images. Re-processing and re-calibration of GOES-7 data has been completed through July 87.

Production of GMS-4 (preliminary) B3 data is current. Re-calibration of GMS B3 data has been completed through December 87 and the B3 data shipped to the ICA.

Production of TOVS correlative data is current, but we still have not received snow or sea ice data for 89.

C1 data for January and February 87 have been completed and shipped to the ICA.

C2 data are complete through 86.

ISCCP Central Archive (ICA):

The ICA continued to receive B1 data from NOA, AES, ESA, and JMA and B3 and C data from the GPC in a routine manner.

SATELLITE HEALTH

The health of GMS-4, METEOSAT-3, METEOSAT-4, GOES-7, NOAA-10 and NOAA-11 remained good.
