ISCCP D2 Monthly Means and Atmosphere Climatology

Selected atmospheric variables, some included in the ISCCP-D2 monthly dataset, are available here for the period July 1983 through December 2004. Also available is a climatology including monthly, seasonal and annual mean maps (see map grid information page). Your selections may be viewed as PNG images or downloaded to your local disk. If you are downloading data, see the browse data format description, and sample FORTRAN read subroutines. These subroutines are NOT the same as the D2READ program used for the full D2 dataset. The full documentation for the ISCCP-D2 dataset is available at the ISCCP Documentation of New Cloud Datasets web page.

Note: The full D2 dataset is available from our archives. The monthly mean files (but not the monthly-hourly mean files that describe diurnal cycle) are also available for each month-year from the ISCCP download site.

Climatological analysis of ISCCP D2 atmospheric variables also include the deviations of monthly averages from the average over the whole time record, as well as the anomalies of monthly averages from each month's average over the whole time record. Such deviations (shown as solid lines) and anomalies (shown as dashed lines) have also been obtained for specific geographic regions separated into oceanic and continental areas, and the plots can be selected through the browse section below.

You may download the data (ASCII format) contained in any of the diagrams available through the following browse section by visiting our download site at See the README page for more details.
